In the footsteps of Jesus
The Holy Land must surely be the most desired of all Christian pilgrims. Countless millions of pilgrims have continuously journeyed to this land – during the bad times as well as the good – and still do, over the two millennia of Christian history. Since the first day of that empty tomb – where a miraculous Resurrection from a cruel and dishonourable death was witnessed and reported – pilgrims have gone to that sacred spot to ponder, wonder and believe. Here, pilgrims seek to walk in the very footsteps of the Lord, to visit and meditate in those places where Jesus lived and carried out his ministry.

Contact will be made in the coming week with pilgrims regarding the Balance. There will be a meeting for Pilgrims in St Anne’s regarding arrangements on: Tuesday, 24th August at 7.00 pm.

If I recognise the difference of Jesus, his disturbance and
freshness become inseparable. In one of his spiritual books,
entitled Heart of the World, the theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar has an eloquent passage about the differentness of God. We often have, he says, a secure place for fire in our houses, a well-guarded fireplace. If one spark escapes, it can destroy the house: ‘If you have the Lord of the World in your fireproof heart, fence him in well … God is dangerous. God is a consuming fire … He begins with a small love, a small flame, and before you know it, he has hold of you and you are caught … He is God, accustomed to infinity … and a seducer of hearts.’ In other words, the loving ambitions of God can be uncomfortable for our tame expectations. What passes for religious can offer a drastically reduced version of the fire of Christ’s love.
